11.- 12.08.2017. – CELEBRATION OF JAMAICA 55th INDEPENDENCE DAY IN SERBIA

The Consulate celebrated Jamaica 55th Independence Day during 13th Rock Village Festival on August 11th and 12th this year.
The festival and celebration were held in village of Banatski Sokolac, some 80 km from Belgrade. The venue was appropriate as the festival and the village itself became famous in Serbia and abroad in 2008 after a statue of late Jamaican reggae legend Bob Marley was erected. Since this statue is the only one in Europe the village is quite known to all Jamaica lovers and Bob Marley fans.

JAMAICA is a maritime state. Election to the IMO Council will provide Jamaica with the opportunity to further contribute to ensuring equity and consensus in decision-making within the IMO. Jamaica’s membership on the Council will ensure that the interests of the Member States of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developing Countries (LDCs) continue to be adequately represented and defended within the IMO. Elections will be held during the 30th Regular Session of the IMO, slated to be held in London, UK, during the period 27th November to 8th December 2017.

02.07.2017. - AFRO FESTIVAL 2017.

As in the previous four years, Consulate participated in the Afro Festival at the Museum of African Art. We had a stand and sold served Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee, Jerk Chicken, Jamaican Rum, caps, bracelets, magnets, T shirts, bags, keychains, coasters and badges. Our special guest this year was Ms. Keisha Kal Witter, Counselor at the Embassy of Jamaica in Berlin.


02.12.2016. - DEL ARNO BEND CONCERT IN THE BELGRADE YOUTH CENTER
DEL ARNO BEND

Under the auspices of the Consulate of Jamaica in Serbia, Del Arno Band performed a concert with which it marked the first 30 years of career.

Del Arno Bend is the first author's reggae roots band in this region, and the founders, brothers Vladan and Jovan Matic, in 1986, represented a serious curiosity on the domestic rock scene, as DAB was simply the only band of such musical direction. CONGRATULATIONS DEL ARNO!

The consulate of Jamaica had a stand for this occasion where we gave away flyers and flags. Jamaican students in Belgrade were delighted to attend this event.

Usain Bolt Wins IAAF World Athlete of The Year Award

Usain Bolt is the 2016 Male World Athlete of the Year, winning a sixth IAAF World Athlete of the Year Award. The 9-time Olympic champion was named on Friday, December 2, at the IAAF Athletics Awards hosted at the Fairmont Hotel in Monaco.

07.-18.09.2016. - Team Jamaica in XV Paraolympic Games in Rio

At the XV Paraolympic Games 3 Jamaican athletes will take part and they will compete in one sport - athletics in 4 events. The team of three competitors comprising Alphanso Cunningham, Shane Hudson and Dana-Gaye Weller will fight for Black, Green and Gold coloures.

The Jamaican team who won gold medal in 4x100m are athletes: Yohan Blake, Nickel Ashmeade, Asafa Powell and Usain Bolt. With this gold, Bolt bacame the only man on the planet who has ever won three times in a row at the Olympics, gold medal in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m race.
